About Shurer Manchitra
Shurer Manchitra is a public archive and interactive map of the traditional and regional music of Bangladesh: bhatiali, bhawaiya, baul, jari, sari, kirtan and the many forms tied to particular rivers, districts and communities.
How recordings are placed
Every recording is placed on the map at the level its performers agreed to, described in Bangla and English, and linked to the tradition, instruments, people and place it belongs to. Traditions are also marked by how endangered they are, so that attention goes where it is most needed.
Reports from the public
Citizens can report music and musicians that should be recorded before they are lost. The archive team reviews each report and, when it can be verified, adds it to the archive.
Credit and rights
Material from partner collections appears with its credit line and a link to the original source wherever it is shown. Nothing is published without the rights to do so.
